Although classified as poisonous, fly agaric can be eaten after cooking and reports of human deaths resulting from eating it are extremely rare. It's noted for its hallucinogenic properties.
According to Wikipedia, there is no scientific difference between a mushroom and a toadstool: "The term 'mushroom' and its variations may have been derived from the French word mousseron in reference to moss (mousse) ... The word 'toadstool' has apparent analogies in Dutch padde(n)stoel (toad–stool/chair, mushroom) and German Krötenschwamm (toad–fungus, [another] word for [the] panther cap)."
